[ale] Network profiles

I have a linux laptop.  I don't travel with it often.  One reason I don't 
travle often is that every place I go I have to tweak a half dozen network 
things, and then put them back when I return home.

Settings include, but there could be more than:
  resolv.conf, vpn-related stuff, IMAP/SMTP access

I can think of 3 general 'profiles' that I might want to use and restore.  How 
do others handle this?  Are there tools that make it automatic?
