[ale] Protocol Analyzer
Ethereal supports reading anything your network adapter can get its
hands on. The limitations only come from the abilities of the card (can
it be put into promiscuous mode), the OS (will it allow you to put the
card into promiscuous mode), and the network physical configuration.
The physical configuration (what switches/routers are between you and
the machine(s) you want to monitor) have to be smart enough and
configurable enough to send your monitor machine the packets you are
interested in.
