If memory serves Slack jumped numbers so people wouldn't get the wrong
impression of it being "behind the times". I believe that RH and
Mandrake were both at "7" so Patrick released Slack with the same.
I know it was just from a marketing view because of Slack 4 being on the
shelves beside Red Hat and Mandrake 7.
I really don't know the times that people have matter of factly told me
that they run "Linux 10" (or some such). When asked to specify a distro
(thinking maybe SuSE / Fedora / whatever) I get told ~sigh~ LINUX!
