[ale] OT: perl https download script?

Anyone have a script along these lines:

  Log into https server with username/passwd
  Read a page
  Based on that page, download a file from that same site?

I'm good at perl, but horrible with https/passwd, etc.  I could even do
with python or something if someone has a well documented example but I
haven't learned python, etc yet.
