dangit!  i didn't realize they were now Seagate.  *please* let them have
adopted Seagate's reliability.

my Maxtor hatred is probably well documented on this and other lists.

~sigh~ guess i will have to start researching drives again, although i
don't know if i want to quit my Maxtor initiated tantrum quite yet.
