Solved the problem

The Mac was asking for a WEP key but not making clear it was expecting a
64-bit key.  Once I figured that out, getting the Mac to accept a 128-bit
key was simple. Not _easy_, as the key/password is 26 characters of
gibberish, but simple enough.
