Yeah, Linus could have saved a lot of trouble and bought a new piece of hardware instead of writing Linux :P
Besides, slackware doesn't have as many packages available as Debian.

Today is just the day for starting distro wars, isn't it. How am I 
supposed to get any work done!
 
FWIW, the lightweight distro I first used, DeLi Linux, was based on an 
older Slackware. Their target is 486.
