I use Cingular ... I have a Samsung ZX10 phone that cost about $100 out 
of pocket with promotions when I got it. Now, I think it's less.  As an 
option there is a "tether" cable that connects the phone to your USB 
port (~$25). Service is $60/mon unlimited (plus airtime subscription). 
Speeds are pretty good. I watch streaming video all of the time. Last 
month I switched my home BS DSL to Comcast broadband. While I waited  (4 
days ) for comcast to come out, I used my laptop/cell phone as an 
internet gateway for my home/office lan. My wife and I saw no 
differences while surfing/emailing, but my voip quality wasn't very good 
if I used it while doing a big download. What's kool is that you can use 
the cell phone while it's acting as a modem.

That said, I'm forced to use it on my laptop since that's the only 
machine I have with windows, and of course cingular won't provide a 
driver for Linux. Other than that, I think it's awesome. It's just too 
expensive to be practical for most people.
