[ale] Q: upgrading to latest Firefox on FC3?

I would like to install the new Firefox (1.5.0.4) in place of my present
1.0.4 on an FC3 box. Present installation is from rpm:
Firefox-1.0.4-1.3.1, but I only found a Mozilla *.tar.gz for the latest.

How can I upgrade and trash the fewest of my current settings?

Actually, I'll face the same issue in SuSe-9.3, so 'global' approaches
are encouraged.
