[ale] routing DNS requests

I'd like to route DNS requests by domain name.  Macs appear to support this 
with /etc/resolver, but linux does not.   The only thing I can find at all is 
to run a local DNS server, and have it 'know enough' to to send requests 
appropriately.

Suggestions on a lightweight server?  Pointers to a configuration that would 
do this?
