[ale] Ubuntu Install

Which version did you install?  Depending on which version (ubuntu vs
kubuntu, etc) will change some package sources.  I would get an updated
apt.sources from the source-o-matic at
http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/source-o-matic

Then do a full upgrade.
