[ale] QEMU networking dud

Anyone:

I've been trying for days to get Win98 in QEMU 0.8.1 (from source, with 
kqemu) on the internet.  Google produces lots of theories, but so far no 
internet access.

Latest try is from

and all the pieces seem to be working, but Win98 can't even ping tap0 or 
yahoo.com, though Linux can ping Win98.

Anyone got a technique that might work?
