on windows: anti-virus/spyware sw installed and up 2 date ?

on linux, rdesktop (to acces RemoteDesktop enabled on her work machine) or
VNC viewer (to access VNC server installed on her work machine).

vpn is a different story. what kind of VPN does she need?  Regular PPTP is
supported well on linux.
