Vikram,

Could there be a mis-match in your printer configuration files?
I ask, because A4 paper is an odd size to find (and use) in the US.

If your base level print command is converting the print data for
one size page and another link in the print chain is having to
reconvert to "letter" or "legal" the delay could easily stretch to a
minute or so.  Is there any reason you are not using CUPS?
