[ale] KDE/aRtsd?

Has anybody ever run into the problem of finding aRtsd running itself
into the ground continually failing to use a pipe?  If so, could
somebody let me know?  (KDE 3.5.2, Gentoo ~x86; Haven't received any
help anywhere else and at this point, guesses in the dark would probably
even be helpful.)

Happens no matter what login I use on the box (including root), and this
isn't the 'alsa/oss' problem that you can find by Googling.  *sigh*
