Through the miracle of Google, I found good notes on this at:

-----Original Message-----
JM> I would like to make a disk-image file and burn it to a DVD that I could
JM> then mount on other Win and/or Lin systems' DVD-ROM drives. ...

JM> Is ISO9660 format usable this way (using 'mkisofs'), or is there some
JM> program analogous to 'mkisofs' that I should use to make such an image
file?

Yes - it seems that 'mkisofs' is used by the dvd recording tools,
specifically:
Yes - 'growisofs' apparently sets 'mkisofs' up correctly for this.

JM> Will typical Win32 DVD-burning software handle such an image file?

Probably depends on the $$ (if any) you paid for the DVD suite.

I also checked a MSWin DVD-R backup in a FC-3 box, and it presents as a
'udf' filesystem.

- Mills
