Been using Vonage for almost two years.  Outages have been minimal.   Most 
recently Mine was out for several days when I screwed up my router.  99% 
of the time others cannot tell it's VoIP, the rest of the time they think 
I'm on a cell phone!

In the beginning it was easy to get vonage help on line or on the phone, 
lately that has been the ONLY problem I've had with them.  I've 
recommended them to my friends who are also happy with the service.

Bottom line, take a chance, you have no long term obligations so you can 
switch or cancell anytime.
