cd /usr/src/linux
cp /proc/config.gz config.gz
gunzip config.gz
mv config .config
make prepare-all 

install vmware and run the vmware-config.pl script.  Then install the vmwaredsp-1.3 package and start vmware with "vmwarearts" instead of "vmware".

You'll get perfect sound under artsd in suse that way.
