Warranty is the highest marked-up item in the store because it's relatively
free for the store to save your contact information in a database. Most
people loose their warranty information on don't know about loop holes such
as the one described above. That's why these companies are making a killing
by pushing warranty.

CompUSA sales people are paid on both commission and TAP (Technology
Assurance Plan). The sales guy will pocket anywhere between 10-20 dollars
depending on the warranty plan.

At first I was against buying into any warranty plan, including my HP hx4705
PDA, but I figure that in 2 years, there will be a new model that my extra
100 dollar investment will pay for itself just in case. Or I decide to break
it by accident for a new one before the warranty is up *grins*.

> Maybe someone here has a similar story.

> I received a letter in the mail to renew my PSP plan on my laptop. I
> was thinking about doing it but the cost is almost at what the laptop is
> now worth. I may also buy a new one in 3 years.
>
> My concern is that the letter stated that I needed to renew to protect
> my laptop from normal wear and tear. That brought up a red flag. When
> I bought the laptop I specifically asked the guy if it covered me
> dropping it. He stated that it did and as long as they got the laptop
> back they would fix it. Losing it in Lake Lanier would not get it
> fixed. I guess I should have recorded him. My wife and I was there and
> we heard it. Obviously I was lied to.

Like my Dad used to say, 'believe none of what you hear and only half of
what you see (read).'

Get it in writing or you lose...

Insurance dweebs will tell you anything to sell you a policy.
