If you do, get ready for an enlightening journey into non-PC
architecture Linux.  AirPort Extreme and sleep for nVidia video cards
are not supported, and fan control on G5 units is still a work in
progress, IIRC.  Debian, Gentoo, and Yellow Dog will be your leading
PowerPC distros, although I think Ubuntu PPC may be coming along as well.
If you would simply rather run in true X with Gnome or KDE, run X11 in
full-screen mode to keep all your hardware working as expected yet still
have the highly-tweakable desktop you may prefer.
