The CPU is the one thing VMWare doesn't emulate (at least not entirely).
Most code is run directly on your existing CPU without modification.
VMWare emulates all the other hardware in the machine (video, audio,
disk, etc). One of the few times VMWare needs to do any sort of CPU
emulation is when the VM needs to run in ring 0.
If OSX is relying on any opcodes that exist on Intel CPUs and not on AMD
it would likely fail to run.
