I like Mozilla mail.   I dumped Outlook about a year ago.  And only use 
the Windows machine for non serious stuff.

There is a setting in Outlook,  Can't remember where.  But with that box 
unchecked outlook will not send email until you are closing it or when 
you hit send/receive.   It will also not check for new email messages.
