[ale] Need to "authenticate" from C++

I've not used libwww personally, but it does look like libcurl's
"CURLOPT_USERPWD"  option could meet your needs, if you are willing to move
to libcurl.

man libcurl
man curl_easy_setopt (look for CURLOPT_USERPWD)
