[ale] Linux compatible video phones?

Having recently moved from Georgia to Colorado, my kids would like to
talk to their old friends via some kind of video conference.  I
believe that MS netmeeting can do this, and I also think that
gnomeMeeting is compatible with netmeeting.

Anyone know if they have compatible video conferencing?  Or have a
better suggestion for a video app?

What should I be looking for in terms of cameras?  How good is Linux
at handling web-cams?
