I have tried under Debian (current), Knoppix 3.8.1, Knoppix 3.6, and SuSE 9.2.

Also tried under XP which wanted to format it every time it "found" it.

QtParted shows "unknown" as file system on the FAT32 partition (the Ext2 is perfect).

If I have to format this then I will make the majority of the drive Ext2 (or Ext3) with a smaller FAT partition (maybe 1-2 Gig) for quick transfers.

Worst case I will reboot the computer and use a Knoppix disk to rsync the drive with a local folder.  This would be a bit more annoying, but worth not going through this with some important files.
