Sounds like you might be missing hardware acceleration. You really want
the hardware acceleration if you want the fps.
Look in your config file for:
Section "Module"
.
.
Load "dri"
.
.
EndSection
and:
Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0660
EndSection
