This example should work on a fat32 disk as well...
[mike at Chiana test]$ ls
* $?5? bar baz foo
[mike at Chiana test]$ rm '*'
[mike at Chiana test]$ ls
$?5? bar baz foo
[mike at Chiana test]$ ls -b
$\a5\377 bar baz foo
[mike at Chiana test]$ rm `echo -e "$\a5\377"`
[mike at Chiana test]$ ls
bar baz foo
Its that easy...

sorry, should have mentioned that the folder in question is on the FAT32 partition of the disk.
