     You may have already tried this, but I would call 800-APL-CARE and 
play dumb.  Just tell them you've had your eMac since xx/xx/2004 and 
it's been doing this thing that's unbearable.  Most of the guys (or 
gals, but that's never happened to me) on that number are pretty cool.
     I did get this one bonehead once who was an annoying new guy.  If 
you get him or anything like him, at the first point that they ask for 
a piece of info like the serial #, etc., say you can't do that right 
now and then call back.  That's what I did with the one bonehead, and I 
got another cool guy next.  We even talked about Debian while working 
through the forms they fill out.
