You can do this with BIND 9.2 or greater.  No extra software needed.

That howto is geared toward making dynamic dns updates from a dhcp
server, but it will work just as well from a cron job.  I don't know how
secure it is, but you could always tunnel it over ssh if you were so
inclined.
