...as soon as the general acceptance of ALE is that the FreeBSD layer and
Xwindows support in Mac OSeX qualifies that platform as Open Source
friends of the Linux community.
Most all of my media work is done on Mac OSeX systems, which I've found to be
the markedly superior platform choice for integrated media production. I
regularly explore (and hope to eventually create some) Linux media solutions,
but at present the reliable programs aren't quite there.
I also think proprietary codecs and fair use suppression schemes of the media
conglomerates are the biggest stumbling blocks to Linux being a better
platform for digital media productions jobs. I'm hopeful that projects like
Ogg vorbis and XviD will continue to remove those hurdles.
