~    It's a bit odd that your ps defaults to showing threads as
processes; what is your platform, distro and shell?  Are there any
aliases lurking about in /etc/*rc files or something?  Does your
printenv yield any PS_* variables being set?

~    Perhaps you could post some sample output...typical ps examples from
the man pages to show thread info include:

ps -eLf
ps axms
