[ale] weird problems with SuSE 9.1 Professional downloaded from http://www.tux.org

I installed it last night on one PC and had no problem.  I had Konq,
Mozilla and Epiphany all open and browsing the web.  Didn't start
Firefox or Thunderbird, though.  Was even able to install the nVidia
driver with YAST2.
