I've done this, but it was quite a while back.  I'd suggest you might 
subscribe to the dbd/dbi list and post the question there if you don't 
get an answer here.

For what it's worth, Oracle was the biggest pain in the butt to get 
working on Linux, even as a simple client solution.

Maybe things have changed.  Good luck and post your successes.
