Different device, so it would be interesting for you to attempt a
different /etc/fstab entry. Try the following:
/dev/hdd4 /mnt/zip vfat noauto,user,exec 0 0
mount the drive from the command line:
mount /mnt/zip
Then check out the perms. See if you can create a file on /mnt/zip.
