I'm surprised Speedfactory or Speakeasy don't service your area.  Have 
you contacted them?

It depends a lot on who your provider is.  Many of them tell you, they 
don't do Linux and you're left out on your own to figure things out. 
Most of them use pppoe, thus you'll need to configure that as well. 
It's pretty straight forward though.
