[ale] Fedora Core 2 and ttyp0 problem

I've got kernel 2.6.5 and copied over a program that uses /dev/ptyp* and
/dev/ttyp* master and slave pseudo ttys.  I'm getting invalid device
when it tries to open the devices.  Do I have to recompile the kernel
and add support for the old tty devices
