It's funny, but when I was at CompUSA I asked if their Adaptec card was ok
for Linux and the first post they Googled was off the ALE list (that card
was unbought also).

> Shoot, I'd have given my old crap TX2 card to you had you asked. As it
> stands now, the only use for that card is to make RAID a Windows only
> box. Not Linux compatible. Sure, they say they've got drivers and you
> can do the install, but after the first kernel update, you'll be
> screwed, losing all the data on your drives.
>
> Best go get your money back if you can if you're wanting to run Linux.
> The 3ware stuff doesn't require any drivers and has built-in Linux
> kernel support, but I like having 3DM web configurator so I can check my
> array from anywhere.

> The folks at

> >controller ... one one hand the bad is that they made the crappy no-good
> >on-board stuff I am using/used to use now ... I figured the good was that
> >their cards were different. The card I got was here:

> >>I've been round and round on this subject.
> >>
> >>I finally bit the bullet and did the following RAID configuration. All
> >>mail order.
> >>
> >>3ware Escalade 7006-2 with two Western Digital 160G drives
> >>
> >>A good link comparing RAID controllers....but beware anything from
> >>Promise, it's not real hardware RAID, and their Linux support SUCKS,
> >>from personal experience.

> >>>Well, I am basically looking .. *was* looking ... for an IDE
> controller
> >>>with RAID to mirror 2 drives. My system is a dual boot with
> >>>
> >>>
> >>Windows and Suse
> >>
> >>
> >>>so the controller has to work with both. The on-board RAID is
> flaky so I
> >>>have decided to go with a hw RAID solution. I tried CompUSA
> (only 1 card
> >>>and it was for Windows only) so I ordered from Monarch - they are great
> >>>folks, but seem to keep little on hand (not a bad business
> decision, but
> >>>tough when you want it in hand *today* and locally bought). I recall
> >>>something on the list about Fry's and went to their site but it
> >>>
> >>>
> >>had nothing
> >>
> >>
> >>>about Atlanta on it so I was just curious if their site was out
> >>>
> >>>
> >>of date or
> >>
> >>
> >>>if I should make the trek up I85 or not.
> >>>
> >>>So where does everyone buy their "above average joe's needs* hw here in
> >>>Atlanta ? (I prefer finding out by personal recommendations than just
> >>>looking in the Yellow Pages)
