i have some hard disks that i want to use in a RAID configuration. if i didn't want to use another drive to host the operating system could i have it network boot to an image or use a livecd? i would think i could remaster a morphix cdrom to hold the necessary software to be used and have it symlink to a folder (if necessary) on the image server for its' logs/users/groups/whatever. with the os in memory i would think it would execute commands fairly rapidly and using journalized file systems for the data, you should be able to pick back up where you left off with relative ease.
using this type of configuration i would think i would be able to quickly transplant the drives into a different machine and the image/livecd would autoconfigure for the hardware of the "new" server.
would this be impracticle? maybe someone is using something similar to this (admittedly i haven't _looked_, but am planning on doing so).
