[ale] Accessing Motorola cellphone thru USB?

I just purchased a Cingular-serviced Motorola V400 camera phone.  PC-to-
phone connectivity is achieved through a USB cable (sold separately,
'natch) that also seems to work with most other Moto phones.

I was wondering what the prospects of getting the two features I would
need out of this PC-to-phone connection (wireless modem and file
synchronization) would be when the PC side is running Linux, and therefore
most likely not running the Windows-only software suite (also sold
separately, 'natch).
