[ale] Quake 3 - Red Hat 9

Quake 3 was working fine but now it gives me the error /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy. 

The persmissions on /dev/dsp are crw-------. The README file suggested adding the read and write permissions for others. I tried that with no luck.

Any suggestions? I really need to blow off some steam!
