[ale] XFree font render & alpha-blend extensions w/ XDMCP?

So now that I have Red Hat 9.0 installed in all of its antialiased font
and alpha-blended cursor glory, I had a thought: if I decided to turn one
of my older notebooks into an X display terminal feeding off a much faster
box running XDMCP, what sort of issues would I run into w/r/t the newer
X Window extensions?  Would they translate at all over the X11R6 protocol,
and if so, what sort of performance hit could I expect to see?

Just wondering if anyone's done this yet.
