He lied to you. Oracle is certified on Red Hat Advanced Server, and on
United Linux. It's not certified on any of the "consumer" releases of Red
Hat or SuSE.
You can make it work on both RHL 8.0 and RHL 9. It works better on 8.0, and
is easier to get going.
