[ale] using mplayer to convert

mencoder -o burn.mpg -ovc lavc -oac pcm -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg1video
input.wmv

That _might_ give you a compatible video. You would be better off
specifying the output bitrates and such. See 'man mencoder'.
