Ouch.  I've not had much experience configuring printers on slack.  I 
use slack for firewalls and webservers.  Since going to cups, I've not 
futzed (technical term) with printcap.

If you get a working solution, I'd like to hear it, as I've got an old 
serial printer I might give a spin.
