[ale] power off quit working

I read up on the kernel configuration changes necessary for the
automatic power off at shutdown and was successful at generating a
kernel that did power off the system. For a month or so, that is. As
of a couple of weeks ago, it stopped working. Did my license expire?

Any idea what magic I might have lost? I checked and I'm still booting
from the same kernel. Could I have upgraded some utility that stopped
the process?

This is a debian woody system.

Thanks,
Jim.
