Making use of an existing device is always good.  What I do for various 
such efforts is dedicate what would normally be a throwaway piece of 
hardware to such efforts.  My print server is a headless p166 with 32 
meg of ram and a 1 gig drive.  It sits in my little data center and I 
just let it run night and day.  The same goes for my driveway camera 
box.  It's also a p166.

I've gotten to the point where I push off such tasks to dedicated 
hardware, then, i hardly know they're their.  I don't have to worry 
about someone else in the house hold shutting down the machine connected 
to the printer.
