[ale] pppd and defaultroute

I've been playing around with pppd and have an issue with the default
route parameter.  If I do not have a default route specified for eth0
then pppd will grab the one from Mondspring.  If I do have a defroute
specified for eth0 then pppd refuses to replace it.  Is there a way to
force pppd to replace the default route?
