No, I don't think the com ports work that way.  COM1 is ttyS0, COM2 is 
ttyS1, etc., even if COM0 is deactivated.

I would fool around with that interrupt.  See if you can move it to 
something else.  It does sound like some kind of conflict.

Play around with setserial and see what it says.
