[ale] mutt giving me problems

I am having a really weird problem with mutt and I wondered if anyone
had any ideas as to what is wrong.  

I have the line mailboxes =ale in my .muttrc file and procmail puts all
mail addressed to or from the list in the ale mbox mailbox.  I have 50
or so new messages every night in that folder and mail in several other
folders.  When I use the c (change mailbox) command it recognized the
new mail in all other folders, except ale.

Any ideas?
