[ale] printer problems

Well, I figured out one problem with a recent pdf doc, thanks to James. 
attempting to open the file with gs provides the following:

This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.

Now that's certainly unique in this case, on to some large images that 
provide the same problem. :(

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
